For the iPod People

Since we're on the topic of iPods, here's an interesting piece of information from Wired. The unveiling of the"Father of the iPod:"

The creator is said to be Tony Fadell. Fadell is the senior director of the iPod and 'other special projects' at Apple. Fadell created the iPod as an independent contractor and then sold it to Apple. And while many in the industry believe Fadell to be the real 'father' of the popular digital music player, his name is unknown to the rest of the Mac public.

In a New York Times article, Steve Jobs states that the iPod was created by a team of hardware engineers led by Fadell. The true nature of Fadell's involvement with the iPods is still a mystery since he is unable to comment because Jobs insists that "the company speak with just the voices of top executives" which excludes Fadell.

However, slashdot reports that Fadell has been telling his story for campus recruiting events for some time. Fadell's bio also mentions the iPods story as well.

But beware, in the Wired article, a source states that Fadell might be taking undeserved credit. The most difficult aspect of creating iPods was the integration and interface with i-Tunes that was done by Apple engineers, says the source.

Who knows...at least we have the Pods...especially the sleek and adorable mini iPods.
