Around the World in 80 seconds

A new high speed internet record was set by Caltech and CERN for sending uncompressed data at 6.25 gigs/second. That's the equivalent of 2 DVDs - about 10,000 times faster than what we use here at school and at home. For those Dan Brown fans, it's true that CERN works in finding "miracles through science," from creating an anti-matter chamber that can simulate the creation of the universe to the creation of the World Wide Web, and this is a huge leap foward in modernity as well. They used Internet2 technology with a network spreading from L.A. to Geneva, Switzerland. While software giants are battling over patents, money, and antitrust issues here at home, it's refreshing to see that the rest of the world is discovering new places to explore and expanding boundaries by the nanosecond.
