Undergraduate
At the undergraduate (B.A.) level, students train to report and write for print/online media or broadcast media in the General and Investigative Reporting concentration, or can choose a concentration in Media Criticism.
Graduate
At the graduate (M.A.) level, the Institute offers ten areas of study:
- Science, Health and Environmental Reporting
- Business and Economic Reporting
- Cultural Reporting and Criticism
- Global and Joint Program Studies
- Reporting New York
- Reporting the Nation
- Magazine Writing
- News and Documentary
- Literary Reportage (new for 2009)
- Studio 20 (new for 2009)
Currently, joint degrees are offered with:
- The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (M.A. Journalism and Latin American and Caribbean Studies)
- The Institute of French Studies (M.A. Journalism and French Studies)
- The Hagop Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies (M.A. Journalism and Near Eastern Studies).
Additional joint studies programs are under consideration.
For joint degrees, students must apply to and be accepted by both participating departments and should indicate their interest when applying.
Students are sometimes permitted to take courses from other areas of study within the Institute; the corresponding director must approve such requests.
