Professor Hedges has been at The New York Times since 1990 where he began by covering the Gulf War, then later became Middle East Bureau Chief, then Balkan Bureau Chief (based in Sarajevo) and is now an investigative reporter. He was also part of The Times' team of reporters that won the 2001 Pulitzer for Explanatory Reporting. Professor Hedges is the author of War is a Force That Gives us Meaning (Fall 2002, Public Affairs). Before The Times, he worked for the National Public Radio and The Christian Science Monitor in South and Central America, and was the Dallas Morning News Central America Bureau Chief. At NYU, he has taught "International Reporting" since 2001.
